Proportionally spaced (logMAR) lines on one side and more tightly-spaced symbols on the opposite side.
Line sizes range from 20/400 to 20/10 (6/120 to 6/3) equivalent, 0.05 to 2.00.

The visual acuity test is an ophthalmological examination used to measure the eye’s ability to distinguish fine details and identify shapes, letters, or symbols at a specific distance.
It is a fundamental test for assessing the quality of vision.
What does it do?
- Measure visual acuity at a distance and up close, for each eye separately or in binocular vision.
- Detect a decrease in vision that may be related to a refractive error (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) or an eye condition.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of optical correction, particularly with glasses or contact lenses.
- Screen for amblyopia, particularly in young children.
- Monitor changes in visual function over time or following treatment.
- Tailor the exam to the patient’s age using various optotypes: letters, numbers, LEA symbols, Landolt rings, or grid tests.
