Technical description

The CADET distance vision test is an examination used in ophthalmology to assess the quality of vision at a distance, in particular the ability to see fine details.

What exactly is it used for?
It measures distance visual acuity, i.e. how clearly you can see distant objects.
It helps detect visual disorders such as :
myopia (blurred vision at a distance),
astigmatism,
sometimes other vision anomalies.
It is often used for :
standard eye examinations (by ophthalmologists or opticians),
school or professional medical examinations.
How does it work?
You look at a board placed at a distance (often 4 to 5 meters).
You are asked to read increasingly smaller letters, numbers or symbols.
The test can be performed eye by eye, then with both eyes.
Special features of the CADET test

The CADET test uses specific optotypes (standardized shapes) which enable precise, reproducible measurement, sometimes adapted to people with difficulties with letters (children, non-readers, etc.).
