Heidelberg Engineering's ANTERION is a high-end anterior segment OCT that's very different from conventional retinal OCT: it's a multimodal SS-OCT platform dedicated to cornea, lens, biometry and implant calculation. Heidelberg presents it as a modular "all-in-one" solution combining topography, tomography, biometry and IOL planning.

Wavelength: 1300 nm
This longer wavelength than conventional SD OCT (~840 nm) enables: better penetration into opaque tissue, complete visualization of the anterior segment, less dispersion at corneal/scleral level, better penetration of dense cataracts.
► Scan speed
50,000 A-scans/second
This gives: fast acquisition, fewer motion artifacts, better biometric reproducibility.
2. Anatomical analysis field
The Anterion enables cross-sectional imaging of: tear film/epithelium, anterior cornea, posterior cornea, total pachymetry, iridocorneal angle, anterior chamber, iris, anterior and posterior lens, visual axis, axial length (with cataract module).
=> in practice, the entire anterior segment is visualized in a single longitudinal acquisition.
3. Corneal topography/tomography data
Scheimpflug-like acquisition, but using real OCT
Unlike the Pentacam, which reconstructs using Scheimpflug photography, the Anterion uses direct OCT measurement.

256 x 65 = 16,640 data points
to reconstruct anterior & posterior corneal surfaces
Usable topographic diameter
8 mm topographic/tomographic data diameter sufficient for keratoconus, post-LASIK ectasia, toric analysis, asphericity, basic corneal HOA.
Maps provided: anterior/posterior keratometry, pachymetry, anterior elevation, posterior elevation, total corneal power, epithelial thickness (depending on software/version), irregularity index.
4. Integrated optical biometry
With the Cataract App module: simultaneous measurement of : Axial length, K1 / K2 / Km, ACD, LT (Lens Thickness), CCT, WTW, pupil, visual axis
The big advantage: all these values are visually verified on a real OCT image, not extrapolated solely by interferometry.
Heidelberg insists on this point: "true measurements, fewer assumptions.
5. IOL implant calculations
Compatible with : Barrett Universal II, Barrett Toric, Barrett True K, Barrett True K Toric, Haigis, SRK/T, Holladay, Hoffer Q, Olsen according to licenses
Widely used for: standard cataracts, post-refractive surgery, irregular corneas, toric implants.
6. The 4 software modules ("Apps")
ANTERION is modular.
① Imaging App (standard): HD section of anterior segment, angle, lens, anatomical visualization.
② Cornea App: complete topo/tomo, pachy, elevation, ectasia, keratoconus
③ Metrics App: anterior chamber measurements, angle-to-angle, scleral spur to spur, vault, ICL/phakes sizing
④ Cataract App: biometry + IOL planning
